Cazin - Tržačka Raštela

360° virtual tour in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Tržačka Raštela is a border settlement in the area of the City of Cazin, located along the Korana River, right by the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. The settlement stretches along the border zone, and its position by the river and state border has historically had a strong influence on the daily life of the local population. A special place in the life of Raštela is held by the bridge over the Korana, which connects Tržačka Raštela with the area of Kordunski Ljeskovac in Croatia. The bridge and the border crossing also have a significant recent historical role: it was in this area in August 1995 that the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina met with the Croatian Army, in events related to the unblocking of the Una-Sana Canton. The area is also interesting due to its immediate proximity to the Old Town of Tršac, a medieval and Ottoman fortress built on a high rock above the confluence of Mutnica into the Korana. Throughout history, Tržac has been an important border point and the estate of the Frankopan family, after which one branch of this noble lineage was named Frankopani Tržački. Today, Tržačka Raštela represents an interesting destination for exploring the border landscape of the Cazin region, where the Korana River, rural landscape, state border, and rich history of the neighboring Tršac meet in a relatively small area. A visit to this area can be combined with a tour of the Old Town of Tršac and other natural and historical sites in the vicinity of Cazin.
