    Džamija Brekovica - Viewpoint

The Old Town of Brekovica is first mentioned in 1330 as a royal town. It was built as a strong fortress with walls, a tower, and a protected inner space. Over the centuries, it changed rulers and played an important strategic role in protecting the Una Valley. After the Ottoman restoration in the 17th century, the fortress remained part of the Bihać captaincy system. Today, the preserved remains of the walls and tower testify to the turbulent past of this area. In the immediate vicinity of the Old Town is the Brekovica Mosque, whose history is connected to the fortress itself. The first mosque in the fortress, along with a mekteb, was built as early as 1631 and served the military garrison and the local population at that time. The present mosque is one of the striking features of Brekovica, particularly distinguished by its four minarets, making it unique in the area of the city of Bihać. The special value of this location is its position. From the hill where the Old Town and the mosque are located, there is a wide view of the Una Valley, the surrounding settlements, and the landscapes of the Bihać region. It is precisely the combination of the stone remains of the medieval fortress, the recognizable mosque, and the panorama of the Una River that makes Brekovica an interesting destination for visitors, history enthusiasts, and photographers.
