Kraljevski grad Bobovac

tourist attraction in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

    Region: Central Bosnia

Bobovac was a royal city and one of the most significant capitals of the medieval Bosnian state, located on a steep rock high in the hills of central Bosnia, not far from Vareš and Kraljeva Sutjeska. This powerful fortified city was the administrative and military center of the Bosnian kings from the Kotromanić dynasty, a place where the Bosnian royal crown was kept. Thanks to its inaccessible position atop the rock, Bobovac long held the reputation of being an almost impregnable fortress and one of the best-defended places in the country. Today, what remains of the former city are mostly the ruins of walls and towers, but the royal burial chapel, where the Bosnian kings are buried, has been partially restored. Bobovac can be reached through a beautiful valley surrounded by dense green forests, either on foot or by car from the direction of Kraljeva Sutjeska. From this place, there is a wonderful view of the surrounding hills and untouched nature. Bobovac is an ideal destination for all lovers of history and nature – a place where one can walk the paths of the Bosnian kings and feel the breath of one of the most important periods of Bosnian history.
