Rmanj Monastery is located in Martin Brod, in the far northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the point where the Unac River flows into the Una, in the heart of Una National Park. This Serbian Orthodox monastery, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, is one of the most important spiritual centres of this region and a valuable monument to the rich past of the tri-border area of Bosnia, Lika, and Dalmatia. The monastery dates back to the late 15th or early 16th century and, through a turbulent history, was damaged and rebuilt several times. According to tradition, it was founded by Katarina Branković in memory of her son Herman, after whom, the story says, it took its name – over time, "Herman" evolved among the people into the name "Rmanj." Restored today and once again inhabited by monks, the monastery bears witness to the layered history of this area. Situated at the very entrance to Martin Brod, surrounded by waterfalls, cascades, and greenery, it is easy to spot and accessible to visitors. Nearby lies the famous Milančev Buk waterfall, the largest in Una National Park, so a visit to the monastery easily combines with enjoying one of the most beautiful sights of the Una River.
