    Stari grad Podzvizd

Podzvizd is a historical settlement near Velika Kladuša, known for the remnants of one of the oldest fortified towns in this region. The old town of Podzvizd is situated on top of a hill, from where a view of the gentle Krajina landscape, surrounding villages, forests, and valleys unfolds. The fortress has a long and tumultuous past. In historical sources, Podzvizd is mentioned as far back as the Middle Ages, and over the centuries it changed its rulers and played an important strategic role in the defense of this area. During the Ottoman period, the fortress was renovated and expanded, and within it were walls, towers, guardhouses, and a mosque. Today, preserved parts of the former fortification complex remain, testifying to its significance. The location's special value comes from its position. From the area of the Old Town, a wide panorama of the green hills and valleys of Velika Kladuša opens up, creating a peaceful and authentic Krajina ambiance. It is precisely the combination of the remnants of the medieval fortress, traces of the Ottoman past, and the natural landscape that makes Podzvizd an interesting place for lovers of history, photography, and lesser-known tourist locations. The Old Town of Podzvizd has been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today it represents a valuable part of the cultural-historical heritage of Velika Kladuša and Bosanska Krajina.
