The Old Town of Srebrenik is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval fortresses in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located on top of a steep, almost inaccessible rock on the slopes of Mount Majevica, not far from the town of Srebrenik. Due to its fairy-tale appearance and location, some call it the lonely beauty. The only way to the fortress is via a wooden bridge that connects the rock to the rest of the elevation over a deep chasm – a detail that once made it almost impregnable. It was built in the Middle Ages and is first mentioned in historical sources in 1333, during the time of the Bosnian Ban Stephen II Kotromanić. The fortress consists of several connected parts with towers and a smaller castle, and its strength and layout are still clearly recognizable today. From the walls, there is an unreal view of the surrounding valley and the town of Srebrenik, making it a favorite spot for history lovers, photographers, and peaceful excursions. Today, the fortress is well-maintained and open for visits, often serving as a venue for cultural events. An unmissable stop for anyone wanting to experience medieval Bosnia.
