    Stari grad Tržac

The Old Town of Tržac is located on a high rock above the confluence of the Mutnica River into the Koran, right by the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina with Croatia. It is a medieval and Ottoman fortress whose history dates back to the Middle Ages, and it is particularly associated with the noble family Frankopan. After the county of Drežnik was granted to the Frankopans in 1323, Tržac became their estate, and one branch of the family was named Frankopani Tržački after this town. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the fortress went through turbulent changes of power, and in 1626 it was restored under the Ottomans and included in the system of the Bihać Captaincy. It suffered heavily during the Vienna War in 1685, and by the early 19th century, it was already significantly ruined. The fortress was spacious and consisted of a circular defensive tower, a castle, and walls that were built in different periods. Today, the remains of the Old Town of Tržac testify to its long and layered past, while its position above the confluence of the Mutnica River into the Koran offers a special view of the surrounding landscape. Tržac represents a valuable part of the cultural-historical heritage of the Cazin region and an interesting destination for visitors who wish to explore the lesser-known medieval and Ottoman fortresses of this area.
