This mosque has roots deeply embedded in history. On the site of the current building, the first wooden version of the mosque was erected in 1565, shortly after the arrival of the Ottoman Empire in this region. Over the centuries, the building has been destroyed multiple times — a total of four times — and rebuilt each time, witnessing the turbulent history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the war in the 1990s, the mosque was destroyed, only to be restored in 2001 in a completely new form. A mosque set on a river island is a rarity in Europe — an environment that combines the flow of water, peace, and religious tradition. The view of the mosque surrounded by the Una River, the reflection of the water, the greenery of the river, and the small bridge leading to the island create an ideal photo opportunity.
