What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser when you visit a website. They allow websites to remember your preferences and understand how you use the site.
This Platform also uses browser localStorage — a similar technology that stores data locally on your device without an expiry date. Unlike cookies, localStorage data is never sent to a server.
We use cookies and similar technologies in accordance with the EU ePrivacy Directive and GDPR requirements.

When you first visit the Platform, a cookie consent banner is displayed. No analytics or advertising cookies are loaded until you explicitly click 'Accept all.'
If you click 'Necessary only,' only strictly necessary storage (language preference, favourites, session cookie) is used. No tracking scripts are loaded.
Your consent choice is stored in your browser's localStorage for approximately 12 months, after which you will be asked again.

You may withdraw or change your cookie consent at any time by: clearing the cookie consent entry from your browser's localStorage (which will cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit), clearing all site data for this domain in your browser settings, or contacting us at hello@bosnia.guide.
Upon withdrawal, analytics and advertising cookies will no longer be loaded on subsequent page visits. Existing cookies already set by Google Analytics or Google Ads will follow their own expiry schedule but will not be renewed.

These are required for the Platform to function correctly and cannot be disabled:
bosniaguide_language (localStorage) — stores your selected display language. No expiry — data remains until manually cleared by the user or the browser. Data stays on your device only.
bosniaguide_favorites (localStorage) — stores the IDs of locations you have saved as favourites. No expiry — data remains until manually cleared by the user or the browser. Data stays on your device only.
Session cookie — a temporary server-side session identifier used for authentication when you sign in. Deleted when you close your browser.
bosniaguide_cookie_consent (localStorage) — stores your cookie consent preference (accepted or rejected). Expires after approximately 12 months, after which you will be asked again.

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the Platform:
_ga — identifies unique visitors. Expires after 2 years.
_gid — identifies unique visitors within a 24-hour session. Expires after 24 hours.
_gat_gtag_* — used to throttle Google Analytics tracking requests. Expires after 1 minute.
Data collected is aggregated and anonymised. IP addresses are anonymised before storage.

We use Google Ads to measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns:
_gcl_au — used by Google Ads to store and track conversions. Expires after 90 days.
_gclid — used to track ad click identifiers passed in URLs.
These cookies allow us to understand which ads led visitors to our site. No personally identifiable information is stored.

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings:

Disabling or clearing localStorage will reset your language preference and saved favourites. Disabling analytics or advertising cookies does not affect your ability to use the Platform.
