   Lukomir

   Lukomir is the highest and most isolated inhabited place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located on the edge of the Bjelašnica mountain, at about 1,470 meters above sea level, right at the edge of the magnificent canyon of the Rakitnica River. This unique village, which administratively belongs to the municipality of Konjic, is about fifty kilometers from Sarajevo and represents a true living museum of the traditional life of Bosnian highlanders. Lukomir enchants with its stone houses covered with shingles made from cherry wood, some of which are up to two hundred years old, and with locals who still nurture the old way of life, wear traditional clothing, and create handicrafts from wool. Scattered around the village are stećci from the 14th and 15th centuries, witnesses to the long history of this area. From the viewpoint at the edge of the village, there is an unforgettable view of the Rakitnica canyon, about 800 meters deep, and the powerful ridge of the Visočica mountain on the other side. Due to the harsh winters, most of the inhabitants bring their livestock to pasture in the summer, and they move to lower areas with the first snow. With the hospitality of the hosts, homemade coffee, pie, and traditional specialties, Lukomir offers an experience that is remembered for a lifetime. It is an ideal starting point for hiking and an essential stop for anyone wanting to get to know authentic Bosnia.

   Džamija u Lukomiru

   The mosque in Lukomir is a modest and charming religious building located in the heart of the highest and most isolated village in Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the slopes of Bjelašnica, at about 1,470 meters above sea level. The locals built it in 1969, and it was renovated in 2014, when a new minaret was also erected beside it. Although small and simple, this mosque has a special charm precisely because of its mountain setting and isolation – its minaret gently rises above the stone roofs of the houses in Lukomir, witnessing the spiritual life of the small community. Here, the locals gather during holidays and important events, and the call to prayer that resonates in the silence of the mountain morning above the Rakitnica canyon leaves a strong and unforgettable impression. Surrounded by stone houses covered with shingles, medieval tombstones, and magnificent mountain landscapes, the mosque in Lukomir is part of a unique ethnological whole that has been declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. For visitors to this 'last true Bosnian village', it is one of the symbols of persistence, faith, and tradition that still lives high in the Bosnian mountains.

   Čuhovići

   Čuhovići is a small and picturesque mountain village located on the southern slopes of Bjelašnica, in the municipality of Konjic, near the famous Lukomir. Along with Lukomir, it is among the highest and most isolated settlements in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a place where time seems to stand still, and nature remains completely untouched. Like the neighboring villages of Bjelašnica, Čuhovići was formed by shepherds who permanently settled on the rich pastures of Bjelašnica from the Herzegovina highlands over time. The village enchants with its tranquility, stone houses, and authentic ambiance of the Bosnian high mountains, far from the hustle and bustle of the city and tourist routes. Beautiful hiking trails lead through Čuhovići and the surrounding area, among which the tour over the peak of Lovnica to Lukomir is particularly popular, offering magnificent views of the deep canyon of the Rakitnica River. Due to harsh winters and high snow drifts, the village is almost deserted in winter, and life returns with spring and the warmer months.    Kanjon rijeke Raketnice

   From the edge of the village of Lukomir, one of the most spectacular views in all of Bosnia and Herzegovina unfolds – a view of the deep canyon of the Rakitnica River. Located right on the edge of the canyon, at about 1,470 meters above sea level, this place offers a dizzying view into an abyss nearly 800 meters deep, where the crystal-clear Rakitnica winds far below. The Rakitnica Canyon, about 26 kilometers long, cuts between the Bjelašnica and Visočica mountains, forming a wild and hard-to-reach gorge filled with untouched nature. It is considered one of the deepest and best-preserved canyons in Europe, a place where nature still reigns in its full, untamed glory. From the viewpoint, there is a view of the powerful ridge of Visočica on the other side, with steep cliffs and green slopes cascading down towards the river. In the early morning or at sunset, when the light changes the colors of the canyon, the scene becomes almost surreal.
